Susanta Nath; DG Prisons

Bhubaneswar: The State Government today appointed senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Susanta Kumar Nath as the new Director General (DG) of Prisons. Shri Nath, a seasoned officer from the 1993 batch, brings a wealth of experience to this crucial role, having served in diverse and challenging assignments throughout his career.

Shri Nath’s extensive service record includes significant tenures as Superintendent of Police (SP) in several key districts, including Kandhamal, Jagatsinghpur, Sambalpur, and Nawarangpur. His commitment to maintaining law and order and his understanding of the state’s diverse regions will undoubtedly be valuable in his new position.

Beyond district policing, Shri Nath has also held important positions in specialized units. He served as SP Vigilance, demonstrating his dedication to upholding integrity within the system. His experience extends to higher echelons of the police force, having served as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the South Western Range, Additional Commissioner of Police (CP) for the Twin City Police (Bhubaneswar-Cuttack), and Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Sambalpur and CID-CB.

Prior to this appointment, Shri Nath held the position of Additional Director General (Addl DG) of the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL), showcasing his understanding of the critical role of forensic science in the justice system. His experience also includes a stint at the national level, serving as Inspector General (IG) in the Border Security Force (BSF) in both Delhi HQ and Tripura, highlighting his capabilities in managing complex security challenges.

Academically, Shri Nath holds an M.Tech degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management, equipping him with a strong analytical and administrative foundation for his new responsibilities.

The appointment of Shri Nath as DG Prisons is expected to bring a fresh perspective and strong leadership to the state’s correctional facilities. His varied experience across different facets of policing, coupled with his academic background, positions him well to address the challenges and opportunities within the prison system. The state government expressed confidence that under his guidance, the prisons will continue to focus on rehabilitation, security, and the welfare of inmates.
