Bhubaneswar: The 5-day first sports meet of SUM Ultimate Medicare (SUMUM), titled ‘Sumumnoya’ and said to be the first of its kind organised by a corporate hospital in Odisha, kicked off here on Thursday.
The meet was inaugurated by hockey Olympian and President of Hockey India Dilip Tirkey who expressed happiness over the venture saying it would not only keep the hospital personnel including doctors, nurses and paramedics fit but also promote team spirit among them.
Shri Tirkey said sports helped people to keep fit and it was necessary for the youth to strive in this direction.
SUMUM’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. Swetapadma Dash said it was for the first time that any corporate hospital in the state had organised such an event for its employees. It will promote relationship and build camaraderie among them, she said.
Dr. Dash welcomed Shri Tirkey saying he was a role model for the youth who dreamt of emulating his achievements.
The competitions include Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton, 100 metre Race,Tug of War, Three Legged Race, Lemon Spoon, Carrom and Musical Chair.
Altogether ten teams—Arora Avengers, Phonex Phantoms, Fusion Force, Celestial Crushers, Zenith Zilts, Nebula Nomads, Galaxy Gladiators, Quantum Quashers, Swift Strikers and Rogue Riders—are participating in the different events. The jerseys of the different teams were unveiled during the inaugural ceremony and the participants took the oath.
SUMUM’s Chief of Medical Services Brig. (Dr.) Biraj Mohan Mishra, Medical Superintendent Dr. Prasanta Kumar Panda, departmental heads, doctors, nurses and other employees were present at the inaugural function.
