State Writes Off Arrear Tax

Bhubaneswar: The State Cabinet has decided to write off arrear tax cases between Rs. 5001 to Rs. 25,000 in each case relating to the OST Act, OAST Act, CST Act, Odisha Entertainment Tax Act and OVAT Act except for 6 goods namely; petrol, diesel, ATF, natural gas, petroleum crude oil and liquor for human consumption.

Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena breiefed Media after the meeting of State Cabinet held here on 11 August.

However, Arrear Tax revenue under the Odisha Entry Tax Act and the Odisha State Tax on Profession, Trade and Calling and Employment Act, 2000 shall not be written off.

There are 59,243 arrear tax cases with revenue implication of Rs.8156.72 crore. Out of the same, there are 27,546 arrear tax cases between Rs. 5001 to Rs. 25,000 totalling to Rs.32.74 crore. If considered to be written off, it will reduce 46% of arrear cases with a sacrifice of arrear revenue of 0.4% of the total arrear revenue.

On the other hand, it will help the existing manpower resources to focus their time and effort for realisation of high-stake arrears as well as GST revenue collection.

The Government has approved the tender for construction of a distribution system for 3745 hectares of Kusumi Smart Irrigation Project over river Kusumi at Sunalati Krushnaprasad in Nayagarh district through UnderGround pipeline Irrigation System (Pressure Flow).

Tender amounting Rs.119.03 crore along with operation and maintenance cost for five years amounting to Rs.6.54 crore has got approval of the Cabinet.  The work is planned to be completed in 18 months.

Further, the Cabinet has approved an estimated budget of Rs. 2687.45 crore to continue Odisha Millets Mission for four years (2023-24 to 2026-27 financial years). The programme is supported through State Plan and DMF.

The Cabinet approved the proposal to amend Odisha Government Rules of Business by allocating the following two new subjects to the Energy Department. Now Energy Transition and Green Hydrogen will be dealt with by the Energy Department.

Today the State Cabinet also approved outright purchase of both towers (tower) A & B of 0-Hub by MSME Department from IDCO at a cost of Rs.350 Crore.

The proposal of Revenue & DM Department to bring in amendment to the Odisha Government Land Settlement (OGLS) Rules, 1983 also got nod of the Cabinet.

The Government has approved the proposal of the Revenue Department to lease out Government land totaling Ac. 48.842 dec. in Mouza- Padanpur, Baratota, Bhimapur & Belapada under Jatni Tahasil of Khordha District in favour of National Institute of Science Education & Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar on free of all charges basis for setting up Cancer Hospital & Education Centre by Tata Memorial Centre (TMC).

The Cabinet approved a tender of Rs. 639.16 crore for execution of 4 Mega Piped Water Supply Projects to provide safe drinking water in Puri District out of JMM funding.

By execution of the projects, around 4,60,612 people of 498 villages under 92 GPs of 7 Blocks of the District will be benefited. The work is targeted for completion within a period of 24 months.
