State Bonanza For Firemen

Bhubaneswar: With the increase of cost of living, the State Government has enhanced the different allowances provided to the Fire & Emergency Services personnel of different ranks.  

In a post on social media site X, Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) informed about the decision taken by the Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and said a total of 6058 fire service personnel will benefit from the move.  

After careful consideration, the Government has been pleased to extend/ revise the allowances including House Rent Allowance (HRA), Special Diet Allowance, Motor Cycle Allowance, Mobility Allowance and Risk Allowance.

House Rent Allowance (HRA) is allowed to the Fireman, Havildars and equivalent ranks o f Odisha Fire & Emergency Service, who are staying in barracks and not provided with residential accommodation in line with other State Government Servants at the rate fixed by the State Government, as per a notification issued by the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Home Department, Satyabrata Sahu.

The admissible rate will be decided on the basis of place of posting of the Fire & Emergency Service personnel, irrespective of the place of actual deployment, Shri Sahu said.

This initiative was taken up by Director General Fire Services, Home Guard and Civil Defence, Sudhanshu Sarangi. Interestingly earlier nodby bothered to hike HRA for the Firemen after Independence and now with proactive Mandarins and Top Cops and a Peoples’ Chief Minister at the helm, the Firemen are allowed to receive their HRA, pointed out a former DG Fire Services.

DGP Shri Sarangi has been proactive in activating the State Fire & Emergency Services since he took over as Chief of the Organization.

DG Fire & Emergency Services received active support from the Department of Home as ACS Satyabrata Sahu took up the cause of the Firemen, who were working in very tough condition.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who is holding the Home Portfolio has been kind enough to sanction the benefits for the Firemen on a priority basis, said sources.

Special diet allowance allowed to Fire & Emergency Service personnel in the rank of Fireman, Havildars and equivalent ranks is enhanced from Rs 900 per month (PM) to Rs 1400 PM.

Similarly, motor cycle allowance/ mobility allowance earlier allowed to station officer and assistant fire officer is extended to Assistant Station Officer and equivalent ranks. The allowance has been enhanced from Rs 300 PM to Rs 1050 PM, the notification said.

Mobility allowance allowed to Fire & Emergency Service personnel in the rank of Fireman, Havildars and equivalent ranks has been hiked to Rs 300 per month from Rs 150 per month.

Besides, the risk allowance provided to Fire & Emergency Service personnel from the rank of fireman up to assistant fire officer is enhanced from Rs 400 to Rs 1000 per month.
