Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and ACS Revenue & Disaster Management, Satyabrata Sahu has advised the fishermen not to venture into the sea on 16-17 August in wake of the possible low pressure formation in the Bay of Bengal.
Shri Sahu in a letter to the Principal Secretary Fisheries and Animal Sources Development and six District Magistrates of Coastal Districts of Ganjam, Puri, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrakh and Balasore informed that the cyclonic circulation over South Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal extending up to 4.5 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height persists.
IMD has also pointed out that under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over Gangetic West Bengal during next 24 hours, the IMD said in its mid day bulletin adding that under the influence of anticipated low pressure area and strong monsoon current, squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 kmph to 50 kmph very likely during 16th and 17th August over North West Bay of Bengal .
“In this connection, the fishermen may be advised not to venture into north west Bay of Bengal during 16th and 17th August,” the SRC said adding that the fishermen out at sea are advised to return to the coast.
The District Collectors were requested to ensure that the fishermen do not enter the sea on August 16 and 17 and return to chore those have been inside.
The IMD has issued warning of heavy rains may lash one or two places in Bhadrakh, Balasore Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nabarngpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
Thunderstorm with lightening is also likely at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Angul and Dhenkanal.
On 16 August, heavy rain may continue at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrakh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Bargarh districts.
Heavy rains are likely at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Bargarh during the subsequent 24 hours, IMD pointed out.
