Bhubaneswar: With the formation of a fresh low pressure area over Bay of Bengal, ACS Revenue & Disaster Management and Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Satyabrata Sahu has put Collectors of 13 districts on alert as flood like situation may arise in north Odisha.
Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal & adjoining Bangladesh the low pressure area has formed over north Bay of Bengal and adjoining Coastal areas of Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal.
It is likely to move westnorth-west wards across Gangetic West Bengal & Jharkhand during next two days.
Keeping this in view, the SRC Shri Sahu has asked the Collectors of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Angul to remain prepared.
“Under the impact of the low pressure area, there may be heavy rain and flood like situation in the north Odisha. It is, therefore, requested to review the preparedness at the district level, take appropriate action and intimate the situation of the district from time to time,” ACS Shri Sahu wrote to the 13 Collectors today.
Besides, the SRC Shri Sahu instructed Kandhamal collector to remain alert and keep close watch of the situation since some roads and bridges in the district are overtopping due to rain. Vehicular movements are strictly prohibited during overtopping roads and bridges, he said.
The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Boudh Sonepur, Bolangir, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri districts before tomorrow morning.
Similarly, heavy rainfall is expected in some places of Kandhamal, Cuttack, Sonepur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Nayagarh districts tomorrow.
As the sea condition would be rough, the fishermen were advised not to venture into sea, along and off Odisha coasts till July 27, 2024.
