Bhubaneswar: Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo, Deputy Chief Minister has been nominated as Member of GST Council of India.
GST Council has been formed by the Government of India to discuss and sort out issues of GST in the country.
Finance Minister of different States and Union Territories in the country have been nominated as Members.
While the Finance Ministers of other states are Members of this Council, Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi has nominated the name of Deputy Chief Minister Shri Singh Deo as a Member of this Council.
Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar is the convener of the Council while Haryana Finance Minister Jai Prakash Dalal, Chhattisgarh Finance Minister O P Chowdhury, Delhi Finance Minister Mr. Atisi Marlena, Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Niyog, Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Mr. P. Keshav and Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thenrasu are among its members.
GST Council will review the IT policy and take steps to streamline the tax system in line with changes in business practices.
It will analyze the main sources of tax loopholes and suggest the use of technology to eliminate them.
This will also work towards revenue growth with emphasis on data analysis. It will work to establish proper coordination by identifying the functioning of the tax administration at the center and the states and in different states. It will propose a timeline for the successful implementation of various changes in the GST regime.
It is noteworthy here that the first ministerial council was formed in the 45th meeting of the GST Council held in Lucknow in September 2021 and later the Team has been reconstituted during August, 2024.
