Bhubaneswar: A significant change has been announced regarding the observance of Savitri Amavasya in Odisha. Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has approved a proposal to shift the official holiday for this auspicious occasion from May 27 to May 26.
This decision comes after consultations with prominent religious institutions, including the Puri Mukti Mandap, and various calendar counting institutions. These bodies have confirmed that Savitri Amavasya will indeed be celebrated on May 26 this year.
Savitri Amavasya holds immense religious importance, particularly for married Hindu women in Odisha and other parts of India. It is a day dedicated to Maa Savitri, observed to pray for the longevity and well-being of their husbands.
On this day, women typically observe a fast, perform rituals, and offer prayers, drawing parallels to the mythological tale of Savitri, who, through her devotion and determination, brought her husband Satyavan back to life from the clutches of Yama, the God of Death.
The shift in the holiday date ensures that devotees can observe this sacred day on its astrologically correct timing, allowing for proper adherence to religious customs and traditions.
