Sardar Jagar Singh No More

New Delhi: Sardar Jagar Singh, a distinguished officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Odisha cadre, 1976 batch, passed away yesterday. He was briefly ill and hospitalized for few days. He was 75.

Born on 5 April, 1950, Sardarji was a highly respected member of the bureaucracy, known for his long and dedicated service to the state, said Shri Jayant Kumar Dev, his batch mate and a close friend. He is survived by his wife and son.

A post-graduate from Panjab University, Chandigarh, Mr. Singh served in various key capacities throughout his illustrious career from 1976 until his retirement in 2010. His service was characterized by integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to public welfare.

Following his retirement, Mr. Singh remained an active and thoughtful voice on public issues, often sharing his insights and expertise on governance and social matters. His passing is a significant loss to the bureaucratic fraternity and the state of Odisha, where he left an indelible mark through his work.

The news of his demise has prompted condolences from many quarters, including former colleagues, political leaders, and members of the civil society, all remembering his contributions to the administration of the state.

His last rites will be conducted at his birth place in Punjab, said family sources.
