Sanjeeb Panda;New Anti-Naxal Chief

Bhubaneswar: Shri Sanjeeb Panda, an IPS officer from the 1994 batch, is recognized for his significant roles and has been appointed as ADG, Anti Naxal Operations.

This new position places him in charge of both the Special Intelligence Wing and Anti-Naxal Operations, reporting directly to the DGP, Odisha, indicating the critical nature of his new responsibilities.

Department of Home has issued a notification in this regard in Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre, effective immediately. The transfer is aimed at streamlining operations and enhancing strategic deployments across the state’s police force, particularly in critical areas like anti-naxal operations and intelligence gathering.

His career demonstrates a trajectory of handling sensitive and crucial assignments. Prior to this, he served as ADG, Training and Director, BPSPA. Shri Anup Kumar Sahoo, IPS (RR 2006), who was serving as IGP, Training, BPSPA, will now assume the charge of Director, BPSPA

Shri Panda has also held the position of Director Intelligence and was the Commissioner of Police for Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. His experience also includes serving as ADG Crime Branch.

A former DGP reportedly considers him “eminently suitable” for top intelligence assignments, citing his experience in managing the state’s intelligence apparatus and his acumen for handling hypersensitive jobs.

His background, including an IIT education, is noted for assisting him in the execution of mega projects, particularly in his role as CMD of the Odisha State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (OSPHWC), where he was credited with scaling up activities and ensuring timely project execution.

In other key movements, Shri Akhileshvar Singh, IPS (RR 2009), formerly D.I.G of Police, SWR, Koraput, has been transferred and posted as D.I.G. of Police, SIW, Bhubaneswar. This move is anticipated to strengthen the anti-naxal intelligence gathering apparatus in the state capital.

Conversely, Dr. Kanwar Vishal Singh, IPS (RR 2010), who previously held the position of D.I.G. of Police, SIW, Bhubaneswar, will now serve as D.I.G of Police, SWR, Koraput. This swap is expected to bring fresh perspectives to both vital roles.

This recent appointment to lead anti-naxal operations further solidifies Shri Panda’s image as a tough and capable officer, entrusted with maintaining law and order in critical areas.
