Sanjay Kumar Bags Prez Medal

Bhubaneswar: The Government of India is going to felicitate 21 police officials from Odisha for their distinguished services to the society.

According to a list announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs today, four Odisha police officers would receive Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG), while two officers would get the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 11 others for the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

Similarly, the President’s Fire Service Medal for Gallantry is awarded to one personnel from Odisha and President’s Home Guard and Civil Defence is awarded to three personnel for their respective acts of valour and gallantry.

Subedar Prahalad Himirika, SI Santosh Kumar Guru, Commando Suneel Kumar Bariha and CT Sujit Kumar Rana have been nominated for the Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG).

Similarly, senior IPS officer and ADGP (Modernization) Sanjay Kumar and Additional SP, Biju Patnaik State Police Academy, Rabindra Nath Satapathy will be conferred with the prestigious President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service on Independence Day tomorrow.

The 11 police personnel who will receive the Police Medal for Meritorious Service are—IG, Northern Range, Sambalpur, Deepak Kumar, Additional SP, Bhubaneswar, Ananta Charan Pati, Cuttack ASP Benudhar Nayak, Berhampur SDPO Rajib Lochan Panda, DSP Vigilance Amita Tripathy, Havildar Krushna Chandra Mohanta, Constable Peter Tirkey, ASI Gupta Prasad Mohanty, SI Dilip Kumar Nayak, Constable Susanta Kumar Majhi, and Inspector Umakanta Pradhan.

Fireman Hemanta Kumar Sethi has been selected for the President’s Fire Service Medal for Gallantry while Home Guards Simanchal Nayak, Gayatri Singh and Nrusinha Prasad Mohapatra would get the President’s Home Guard and Civil Defence.

A total of 954 Police personnel have been awarded Police Medals on the occasion of the Independence Day, 2023. President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) has been awarded to 1 CRPF personnel, Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) has been awarded to 229, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM) awarded to 82 and Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM) has been awarded to 642.

Among the majority of the 230 Gallantry Awards, 125 personnel from Left Wing Extremism affected areas, 71 personnel from Jammu & Kashmir region and 11 personnel from North East region are being awarded for their gallant action.

The President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) and Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) is awarded on the grounds of Conspicuous Gallantry in saving life and property, or in preventing crime or arresting criminals. The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM) is awarded for a special distinguished record in Police Service and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM) is awarded for valuable service characterized by resource and devotion to duty.
