Samarth Supports 3K

New Delhi: More than 3,000 people have been able to receive training and employment in the state in the last three years under the Samarth Scheme being implemented by the Union Government to provide training and employment to the people in the textile sector.

This information was given by Union Textiles Minister Darshana V Jardosh in response to a question asked by BJD MP Sasmit Patra.

Union Minister Smt. Jardosh mentioned that the scheme is developing the skills of weavers and artisans working in traditional sectors such as handlooms, handicrafts, silk, jute etc. Samarth Scheme is being implemented keeping in view the demand across the country. In this scheme, priority is being given to social groups, especially women, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. However, women are the biggest beneficiaries of this scheme.

According to the Minister, between 2020-21 and 2022, 3,858 persons in Odisha received training in Samarth Jjana and 3,196 got employment during the period. Tamil Nadu has the highest number of 34,287 people trained during this period, followed by Karnataka at over 31,000. In these three years, more than 4,000 people have been trained in Andhra Pradesh and more than 3,500 jobs have been found.

Out of the 11 districts of Odisha, Khurda has the highest number of 1888 people trained under the Samarth Scheme, followed by 1634, while cuttack has 659 and 558 respectively. In Ganjam district, only 42 people have been trained, while 40 have been able to get employment.

Similarly, training centers have been opened across the country for imparting training under the Samarth Scheme, while in Odisha, the number is 35. The highest number of 527 training centres are in Tamil Nadu followed by 446 in Karnataka, 229 in Uttar Pradesh, 40 in Andhra Pradesh, 16 in Chhattisgarh, 19 in Jharkhand and 19 in West Bengal.

Out of the 35 training centres in Odisha, 11 are in Khordha, six in Cuttack, two each in Bolangir, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Kalahandi and one each in Balasore, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur and Sundargarh.
