A primary focus in Odisha is the expansion and modernization of Paradip Port. Under Sagarmala, Paradip has seen significant capacity augmentation, making it one of the highest cargo-handling ports in the country. Specific projects include the development of a world-class terminal and the implementation of mechanized handling systems to reduce vessel turnaround time. This modernization supports the movement of coal from Odisha’s mines to southern and western power plants via coastal shipping, which is more cost-effective and environmentally friendly than rail transport.
Connectivity projects in Odisha are another major highlight. These involve the construction of heavy-haul rail lines and road upgrades linking the industrial hinterland of Kalinganagar and Angul to the ports of Paradip and Dhamra.
