Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Civil Aviation is executing a large scale repatriation effort to ensure the safe return of Indian nationals, including a significant population from Odisha, as regional tensions continue to impact air travel.
For 9th March 2026, Indian carriers have planned 50 inbound flights from major hubs including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, and Jeddah. This follow-up comes after a successful operation on 7th March where 51 flights safely brought 8,175 passengers back to India.
The Government of Odisha is working in close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Civil Aviation to monitor the safe passage of the Odia diaspora. Thousands of people from Odisha are currently employed or residing in the UAE and other Gulf nations.
Following instructions from Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, a dedicated working group has been established in Bhubaneswar to track the safety of these expatriates. Special helplines and a WhatsApp coordination group have been created to facilitate the registration of those seeking to return home.
Airlines including Air India, Air India Express, Indigo, Spicejet, and Akasa are making necessary operational adjustments to maintain the orderly conduct of flight operations despite the prevailing conditions.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation is also strictly monitoring airfares to prevent any undue surge in ticket prices during this critical period. Officials have noted that carriers are continuously assessing the ground situation at various airports to explore the possibility of operating even more flights.
Odisha’s Resident Commissioner and the Directorate of Odisha Paribar remain in constant touch with Odia Samaj groups in the Middle East. While many airspaces in the region have seen intermittent closures, the coordinated efforts between the State and Central Governments have so far ensured that thousands are reaching their destinations safely. Passengers are advised to remain in touch with their respective airlines for real time updates on schedules and availability.
