Sacred Rituals Prep For Lord Lingaraj

Bhubaneswar: Development and discipline surrounding the sacred rituals of Lord Lingaraj took center stage during a high level coordination meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Shrimati Anu Garg today held at the Lok Seva Bhawan conference hall.

Principal Secretary Department of Law, Dr.Pabitra Mohan Samal outlined the discussion points and the session was dedicated entirely to ensuring that the ancient traditions and worship protocols of the Presiding Deity of Bhubaneswar are conducted with utmost sanctity and precision.

Addressing senior officials and temple stakeholders, Smt. Garg emphasized that Lord Lingaraja is the revered deity for millions of devotees across Odisha. She maintained a firm stance that any negligence regarding the timely execution of the Lord’s rituals is unacceptable. With the auspicious Maha Shivratri festival scheduled for February 15th, the administration is prioritizing a seamless experience for the thousands of pilgrims expected to descend upon the 11th century shrine.

The meeting focused on the immense spiritual significance of the Jagar Jatra, noting that managing the massive influx of devotees while maintaining the sanctity of the darshan is a primary challenge. To address this, a comprehensive roadmap is being developed through the collective efforts of the state administration, police, fire services, and the various Nijogs or servitor groups of the Lingaraja Temple.

Key discussions revolved around ensuring that the Mahadipa is raised at the scheduled time and that all pre-ordained rituals are completed without delay. Beyond ritualistic discipline, the authorities discussed enhancing the environment within the temple complex, including improved ventilation, oxygen availability, and fire safety measures to protect the well-being of the faithful.

To keep the public informed, real-time updates regarding the progress of the Lord’s rituals will be broadcast via television, radio, and public address systems. Senior officials with prior experience in managing temple festivals will be specially deployed to ensure the spiritual event concludes successfully.

The meeting saw participation from high ranking officials including Police Commissioner Shri S. Dev Datta Singh, and Endowments Commissioner Shri Lalatendu Jena, all of whom committed to upholding the glory and traditions of Mahaprabhu Lingaraja.
