Bhubaneswar: Five people were killed and 12 others injured as a tanker overturned on a roadside tea stall after a head-on collision with a bus in Ganjam district this morning.
The accident happened on National Highway 59 at Samarjhola near Hinjili. The bus was on the way from Bhawanipatna to Berhampur, while the tanker was going towards Aska when the accident happened, police said.
Soon after the massive fatal accident, locals, police and fire service teams from local stations rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Those injured were admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
“Five people have died and 12 injured in the accident. One of the injured persons is in critical condition while the condition of others is stable,” District Collector Divya Jyoti Parida said.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep grief over the death of five people in the road accident and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.
The Chief Minister has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each dead person and Rs 1 lakh to the seriously injured.
Along with this, he said that the State Government would bear the entire cost of the treatment of those injured in the accident.
