Remembering Shyama Prasad

New Delhi: Today, June 23rd, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) solemnly observed the Balidan Divas (Martyrdom Day) of its ideologue and founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee.

The nation joined Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in paying heartfelt tributes to the visionary leader, who championed national unity and integrity.

State BJP President Man Mohan Samal, Chief Spokesperson, State BJP, Sajjan Sharma and senior leaders said Dr. Mukherjee, a stalwart patriot, dedicated his life to the cause of a strong and unified India.

He fiercely opposed Article 370, advocating for the complete integration of Jammu & Kashmir with the Indian Union, famously coining the slogan: “Ek Desh Mein Do Vidhan, Do Pradhan, Do Nishan Nahi Chalenge” (One country cannot have two constitutions, two prime ministers, and two national emblems). His untimely demise on June 23, 1953, in Kashmir, remains a poignant moment in India’s political history.

Across the length and breadth of India, BJP units organized a series of commemorative events to honor Dr. Mukherjee’s profound contributions and unwavering commitment to the nation. Senior party leaders, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, and party workers participated in wreath-laying ceremonies, public meetings, seminars, and blood donation camps.

The celebrations served as a platform to reiterate Dr. Mukherjee’s principles of national integration, cultural nationalism, and good governance. Party leaders emphasized his vision for a strong, prosperous, and united India, urging cadres to draw inspiration from his sacrifices. Discussions focused on his role in shaping India’s political discourse and his enduring relevance in contemporary times.

The BJP’s nationwide observance of Balidan Divas underscores its deep reverence for Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee’s legacy and his foundational role in the party’s ideological framework. His ideals continue to guide the party’s commitment to national sovereignty and the welfare of every Indian.
