Reference Book For Odia Students

Bhubaneswar: In a historic move to strengthen mother-tongue education, Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi launched a series of science reference books prepared in Odia for Class 11 students at Lok Seva Bhawan today. Developed by the School and Mass Education Department, the newly unveiled books cover core subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Addressing a long-standing gap in regional language educational resources, the State Government has decided to provide 10 to 20 copies of these reference books to every Higher Secondary School across Odisha. These materials will be available in school libraries, enabling students to consult complex scientific concepts in their native language. Furthermore, the Institute of Odia Studies and Research will work to ensure these books are available for purchase at bookstores in all district headquarters.

This initiative is set to benefit approximately 120,000 students across 700 Higher Secondary Schools. The government also announced plans to develop similar Odia-language reference books for Class 12 in the next phase. This progression aims to establish a robust framework where students can access quality technical and scientific literature in Odia from primary school through to higher education.

The launch event was attended by several high-ranking officials and ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, School and Mass Education Minister Shri Nityananda Gond, and Higher Education Minister Shri Suryabanshi Suraj. Chief Secretary Smt. Anu Garg and other senior department secretaries were also present to support this significant step toward inclusive and culturally rooted education.
