Ramakanta Rath No More

Bhubaneswar: Legendary Poet and an Ace Administrator Ramakanta Rah passed away on 16 March. An IAS Officer of 1957 Batch, Shri Rath was 91. He was one of the most renowned poet of Modern Age in Odia Literature.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep condolences on the demise of the legendary poet Ramakant Rath of modern Odia literature.

In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said that Padmabhushan Swargat Rath was one of the few best poets in the world of Indian literature.

His demise is an irreparable loss to the literary world. The Chief Minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul of Naant Rath and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.

The Chief Minister has directed that the last rites of a great literary figure and creator of the era like him should be performed with full national dignity.

Minister Odia Language, Culture and Literature, Surjyabanshi Suraj said the demise of Padmabhushan Ramakant Rath, a modern poet of Odia literature, is an irreparable loss to the world of Odia literature.

He earned a great reputation as an efficient administrator. Many of his poetry collections were highly appreciated by the readers. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award for his poetry collection “Saptam Rutu”.

The use of spiritual and primordial imagination is seen in Ramakant Rath’s writings. The world of literature pays deep tribute to the demise of such a great man. May God rest the great soul at his feet.

Gurujee Dr. Chandra Bhanu Satpathy expressed deep condolences on the demise of Shri Rath. He shared his heartfelt tribute to the renowned writer. Reflecting on their decades-long association, he recalled first knowing Shri Rath during his student days at Ravenshaw College, Cuttack.

During the last few years I have been having telephone interactions with him and his wife . They gave  me a lot affection whenever I visited their house .

Only a  few days back we exchanged a few words over telephone. He seemed not to be in good health. I also had a few words with his wife .
His departure is a great loss for the state of Odisha and can’t be compensated .

Guruji said “I pray for peace to his soul . I pray Lord Jagannath , whose devotee was , to give strength to his family to give strength to bear this irreparable loss”.

Additional Chief Secretary Home, Satyabrata Sahu, who is also an acclaimed singer paid his rich tributes to the departed soul. Shri Sahu visited Shri Rath’s residence and expressed deep condolences.

Former Chief Secretary and Author Tarunkanti Mishra lauded Shri Rath’s contribution to the Odia literature.
