New Delhi: In fulfillment of its constitutional mandate, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) today submitted its Annual Report for the financial year 2023-24 to the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The delegation, which presented the report, was led by NCSC Chairman, Shri Kishor Makwana, accompanied by Members Shri Love Kush Kumar and Shri Vaddepalli Ramchander, and Secretary (NCSC), Shri Gudey Srinivas, IAS.

As per Article 338 of the Constitution of India, the NCSC is obligated to present an annual report to the President, detailing the efficacy of constitutional safeguards for Scheduled Castes. The report also includes crucial recommendations for both the Union and State Governments. These recommendations aim to ensure the effective implementation of protective measures, promote the welfare, and foster the socio-economic development of Scheduled Castes across the nation.

The 2023-24 report offers a comprehensive review of the functioning of constitutional provisions designed for Scheduled Castes. It specifically addresses critical issues such as atrocities and crimes committed against SC communities. The document further highlights key findings derived from extensive reviews, on-site visits, and consultations with various Central and State Government departments concerning the implementation of welfare schemes and socio-economic development programs targeting Scheduled Castes.

Significantly, the Commission has put forth a series of key recommendations. These proposals are geared towards bolstering institutional accountability, ensuring swift and equitable justice, and ultimately enhancing the holistic empowerment of Scheduled Caste communities throughout India.
