Bhubaneswar: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urged Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J P Nadda to set up a National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Odisha.
Shri Pradhan wrote to Shri Nadda, highlighting that such an initiative would greatly benefit the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors across Eastern India.
“I would like to bring to your kind attention about the pressing need for establishment of a National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Odisha. This initiative will significantly contribute to the growth of pharmaceutical and biotech sectors in Eastern India,” he said.
Shri Pradhan said Odisha BioTech Park in Bhubaneswar is the first-of-its-kind facility in Eastern India with access to water, electricity, effluent treatment and all other facilities required for establishment of Biotechnology Industries and allied service sectors. It offers an ideal environment for the establishment of NIPER.
Establishment of an institute like NIPER will not only address the educational and research gaps in pharmaceutical disciplines but also promote innovation and skilled workforce development, thus enhancing India’s global competitiveness in the pharmaceutical sector, the Union Minister said.
He further said that establishment of NIPER in Odisha will go a long way in achieving the objective of PLI Scheme in the pharmaceutical sector, realising the goal of Atmanibhar Bharat.
Union Minister requested Shri Nadda to look into the matter at his personal level to consider Odisha as the next location for NIPER, which will contribute significantly to India’s pharmaceutical education and research.
