Pradhan Opens Shiksha Samagam

New Delhi: Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan today inaugurated the Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam (ABSS) 2025 in New Delhi, marking the fifth anniversary of the transformative National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The landmark event, held at Bharat Mandapam, served as a comprehensive platform for key stakeholders to assess the policy’s significant impact and strategize for the future of Indian education.

The Samagam drew a diverse gathering, including Minister of State for Education & Minister of State (IC), Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Jayant Chaudhary; Minister of State for Education & Development of North Eastern Region, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar; Education Ministers from 13 States/UTs, senior officials, prominent academicians, and representatives from autonomous bodies, higher education institutions, and schools.

The event commenced with a solemn tribute to Padma Vibhushan Dr. K. Kasturirangan, Chairman of the NEP 2020 Drafting Committee, acknowledging his visionary contributions. This was followed by a vibrant welcome song from Kendriya Vidyalaya students and the reading of a special message from the Hon’ble Prime Minister by Minister of State Shri Jayant Chaudhary.

In his inaugural address, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan lauded the successful five-year journey of NEP 2020, emphasizing its reflection of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision to place education at the core of India’s growth trajectory. He stated that NEP 2020 is a “national mission” guiding the nation towards the “Viksit Bharat 2047” goal.

Pradhan highlighted that the past five years have seen the successful transition of NEP 2020 from “policy to practice,” creating a paradigm shift that has permeated classrooms, campuses, and communities across the country. He underscored that the policy’s foundation lies in Indian ethos, with a strong focus on scientific education, innovation, research, Indian knowledge systems, and Indian languages, all contributing to the broader objective of nation-building.

Discussions at ABSS 2025 are expected to delve into key themes such as achieving 100% Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) by 2030, promoting Bharatiya Bhasha, leveraging technology in classrooms, mainstreaming Indian Knowledge Systems, and fostering inclusivity. The event is also set to witness the launch of new educational initiatives, inauguration of infrastructure projects, and the announcement of major reforms in the accreditation system for higher education institutions, moving towards a binary model of ‘accredited’ or ‘not accredited’.
