Mumbai: At the AIIFA STEELEX-2025, Mr.B. Prabhakaran, the Managing Director of Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited, spoke on the crucial topic of “green steel.”
The event, also known as the 37th National Conference on Sustainable Steel, took place in Mumbai and focused on the future of India’s steel industry through sustainable practices.
Mr. Prabhakaran, a seasoned leader with decades of experience in the mining and manufacturing sectors, emphasized that the transition to green steel is not merely an environmental goal but a national imperative for India.
He highlighted that true sustainability extends beyond environmental concerns to include community development, technological advancement, and sound business principles.
During his address, he shared insights from Lloyds Metals and Energy’s own journey toward a more sustainable model, including their development of India’s first certified green iron ore mine at Surjagarh in Maharashtra.
This initiative serves as a tangible example that environmental responsibility and profitability are synergistic.
The conference, which also saw the participation of Union Minister New & Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, underscored India’s ambitious target of producing 300 million tonnes of zero-carbon steel.
The event facilitated the signing of strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and the launch of a “Green Certificate” to recognize steel manufacturers excelling in decarbonization and the adoption of green technologies.
The presence of industry leaders like Mr. Prabhakaran at such a significant forum reinforces the collective commitment to transforming the steel sector into a global leader in sustainable practices.
