Policy Boosts Bio-Tech

New Delhi: Ashok Chandra Panda, Minister, Science & Technology said that the State Government is taking steps to include millets in the Bio-Technology Policy and this sector is replete with immense output, keeping in view productive role it plays in current developed economy.

Shri Panda was speaking in the plenary session, after inaugurating Odisha Pavilion in “Global Bio India-2023” at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Attending the 3 Day Global Conclave organized in joint collaboration of Department of Bio-Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India and Bio-Technology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRC), Minister Sri Panda said that bio, water and marine resources in Odisha add substantial potential for growth of bio technology.

He said that better interventions, supportive industrial policy, special bio park and startup ecosystem in Odisha encourage education, research and innovation, entrepreneurship, product development and manufacturing to enable the state to become one of the top biotech innovation and investment destination in the country.

Chithra Arumugam, Principal Secretary, Science & Technology addressing a session devoted to discuss the policies and investment programs by the states for biotech industries said that state government promotes biotech startups through technology incubator.

Bharat Biotech will manufacture vaccines in coming days from the special biotech park built by the state government at Andharua, near Bhubaneswar.

She also said that state biotechnology policy will be revised in order to bring major developments in this field. 10 startups including Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) and Bhubaneswar City Knowledge Innovation Cluster (BCKIC) participated in the exhibition organised by Science & Technology Department.

Among the guests, Kiran Mazumdar- Shaw, Executive Chairperson and founder of Biocon visited the exhibition and appreciated the startups from Odisha.

Puja Mishra, Joint Secretary, Sashikant Dash, Deputy Director (Bio Technology), Senior Scientist L.N.Padhi, Mrutyunjay Suar, Chairman, BCKIC along with other representatives and scholars from different institutions are included in the Odisha delegation.
