Bhubaneswar: The Odisha police have seized 24663 Litres liquor, 98 illegal arms, 3.444 kg of narcotic drugs, during the special drive launched in view of urban election.
The police have registered 1377 excise cases and executed 480 pending warrants during the election process so far.
The general elections to 106 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and 3 Municipal Corporations in the State will be held tomorrow and people of urban areas of 30 districts will cast their votes. The State Police have made adequate security arrangements for free, fair and peaceful elections.
As many as 100 platoons force and 340 mobile patrolling parties along with district police officers/ men have been deployed for 106 ULBs over the State for smooth conduct of ULBs elections. Total 1731 wards will go for a poll consisting of 3068 numbers of booths.
Similarly, 105 platoons force and 110 mobile patrolling parties along with police officers/ men have been deployed for three Municipal Corporations (BMC, CMC, BeMC) for smooth conduct of elections. Total 168 numbers of wards will go for poll consisting of 1407number of booths in three Municipal corporations.
The election will be conducted with strict enforcement of State Election Commission guidelines.
Adequate security arrangements have also been made in different Strong Rooms throughout the urban areas with CCTV coverage to ensure round the clock safety of EVMs, the police said.
As many as 6,411 candidates have remained in the fray for election. Over 40.55 lakh voters are eligible to cast their votes in the election for which voting will be done in between 8 AM to 5 PM.
Two EVMs will be used in each booth- one to elect Mayor/Chairperson and another for Corporators and Councillors. For the first time, there will be a none-of-the-above (NOTA) option for voters in the EVMs.
One presiding officer and four polling officers will be engaged in each booth. In total, 22,000 polling officials have been deployed for the poll.
