POCSO Accused Gets 25 Yrs Jail

Jharsuguda: In a swift and decisive judgment, the Additional District and Sessions Judge, POCSO, Shrimati Puja Sarangi, today pronounced the final verdict in the harrowing case of the sexual assult of two minors in the Jharsuguda district. The main accused, Ajit Nag, has been sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment.

The verdict comes remarkably quickly, with the police having filed a chargesheet in the case within an impressive 55 days of the initial complaint. This rapid progress underscores the seriousness with which the authorities treated the case.

The case was registered at the Brajrajnagar police station on March 23rd of this year. According to the details presented, the accused, Ajit Nag, lured an 11-year-old minor to an isolated location and subjected him to sexual assault. When the young victim resisted, Nag reportedly physically assaulted him and issued death threats to ensure his silence. However, upon returning home, the minor bravely recounted the ordeal to his mother, leading to the immediate filing of a police complaint.

Further investigation by the police revealed a disturbing pattern of behavior by the accused. It came to light that Ajit Nag had previously sexually abused another minor, who was also his nephew, along with other minors within the village. Shockingly, it was also discovered that the accused had a prior history of incarceration in connection with a previous rape case.

Public Prosecutor Prakash Mohanty effectively presented the case in court, leading to the conviction and subsequent sentencing of the accused. The swift conclusion of this sensitive case is likely to bring a sense of relief to the victims and their families, as well as the wider community in Jharsuguda. This verdict serves as a strong message about the commitment of the judiciary to ensuring justice in cases of sexual assault, particularly those involving minors.
