PM’s Three-Nation Tour Begins

New Delhi: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has embarked on a high-profile, three-nation tour of Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand from July 6 to 11, 2026, aimed at deepening regional ties, boosting economic cooperation, and reinforcing India’s strategic footprint in the Indo-Pacific region.

The diplomatic tour begins in Indonesia from July 6 to 8, at the invitation of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. This marks the Prime Minister’s first bilateral visit to Indonesia since the two nations elevated their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018. The visit follows President Prabowo’s state visit to India earlier, where he served as the chief guest for India’s Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2025. In addition to bilateral talks aimed at strengthening multifaceted ties, the Prime Minister is scheduled to engage with the Indian diaspora and join President Prabowo for a visit to the historic Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, highlighting the deep civilizational and cultural connections between the two countries.

Following the conclusion of the Indonesian leg, the Prime Minister will travel to Melbourne at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Discussions between the two leaders will focus on advancing the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a particular emphasis on defense and security, trade and investment, education, mobility, and people-to-people ties. The visit will also explore deeper bilateral cooperation in emerging and critical technologies, as well as sports and sports science. While in Melbourne, the Prime Minister will address members of the Indian diaspora, who represent a vital pillar of the strategic relationship.

The final leg of the tour will take the Indian Prime Minister to Auckland, New Zealand, following an invitation from Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. This visit looks to build on the momentum generated by Prime Minister Luxon’s visit to India in March 2025. Conversations will center on enhancing economic, trade, and commercial engagements, backed by the mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral trade through the signing of a Free Trade Agreement. The Prime Minister will also connect with the vibrant Indian community in New Zealand, acknowledging their significant contributions across various sectors.

This comprehensive tour across the Eastern and Southern Indian Ocean, extending into the Pacific, is expected to give a major push to India’s Act East Policy and its MAHASAGAR Vision, while reaffirming New Delhi’s commitment to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
