PMFBY Date Extended

Bhubaneswar: On the request of Odisha government, Centre has extended the cut- off date for enrollment of crop notified under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for Kharif 2024 for 10 days till August 10, 2024.

The State government had approached the Centre for extension of the date citing challenges faced due to model code of conduct, enhancement for scale of finance and delay in sanctioning of loans for Khariff crops by the banks.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has sent a communication to the Odisha Cooperation department today.

State Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Principal Secretary Arabinda Padhee has shared this letter in his twitter handle.

“The cut-off date for the enrolment of farmers in Odisha under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the ongoing Kharif season has been extended up-to 10th August 2024 by Govt of India,” Dr.Padhee said on X.

In that letter, the Ministry said, “The matter has been examined by the Department as per the provisions of the scheme and the consent furnished by the implementing Companies concerned viz. Agriculture Insurance Company of India, SBI General Insurance Company Ltd, Future Generali insurance Company Lid and Reliance General Insurance Company Lid operating in Odisha.”

Taking into consideration the interest of the farmers in the State, GOl consents and approves the extension of the cut-off date for enrolment of the farmers for all crops notified under PMFBY beyond July 31, 2024, for 10 days till August 10 for Kharif 2024 season, it said.

The Government of India premium share shall be payable during the extended period. The National Crop Insurance Portal will also remain open during this period for enrolment.

State Government has been advised to take necessary actions in this regard with OSC Banks and other Channel partners to ensure maximum enrolment of farmers during this extended period.

Also, the Ministry has requested the State Government to take utmost care in eliminating moral hazards and ant-selection during this extended period, in compliance with the operational guidelines.
