Bhubaneswar: The Press Information Bureau (PIB), in collaboration with the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Bhubaneswar, successfully organized a press meet at the institute’s premises to raise awareness about hospitality education among the youth of Odisha.
Sharada Ghosh, Principal of IHM Bhubaneswar, along with senior faculty members Sambit Suman and Pramathadhip Kar addressed Media Meet. The discussions revolved around the vast career prospects in the hospitality sector and the critical role of quality education in shaping future professionals.
Speaking at the event, Smt. Ghosh emphasized IHM Bhubaneswar’s commitment to reaching out to students across Odisha to showcase the immense potential in the hospitality industry. With Odisha emerging as a key tourism hub and witnessing a surge in luxury hotels and resorts, the demand for skilled professionals is at an all-time high.
She elaborated on the premier courses offered by the institute, including the B.Sc. in Hospitality & Hotel Administration and the M.Sc. in Hospitality Administration, both awarded by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. Designed to impart industry-relevant skills, these programs offer students a pathway to lucrative and dynamic career opportunities.
She further highlighted that students from any academic background can apply for the B.Sc. in Hospitality & Hotel Administration, provided they have studied English as one of their subjects. Encouraging young aspirants, she underscored the vast opportunities that hotel management presents as a rewarding and evolving profession.
Shri Suman provided insights into the diverse career avenues available to graduates. Beyond hotel chains, employment opportunities span across airlines, railways, industrial catering, facility management, hospitals, retail, food service, and even the armed forces. He stressed that the skill sets acquired during the course enable students to seamlessly integrate into various service industry domains.
Adding to the discussion, Shri Kar spoke about the skill development initiatives spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and IHM Bhubaneswar’s role as a Skill Development Centre. He highlighted the institute’s involvement in government-backed training programs, including the Capacity Building for Service Providers initiative, which offers free skill training. He also acknowledged the Odisha state government’s collaboration with IHM Bhubaneswar on multiple projects, such as Café Management Training for SHG Women, sponsored by Mission Shakti, and Hospitality Operations Training for Hearing-Impaired Youth, sponsored by SSEPD.
Additionally, he announced that IHM Bhubaneswar has been designated by the Ministry of Defence as a training center for personnel in various diploma courses, further cementing the institute’s role in professional development.
The event provided an interactive platform for media representatives to address their queries and gain deeper insights into the future of hospitality education in Odisha. With a steadfast commitment to nurturing young talent, IHM Bhubaneswar continues to be a pioneer in shaping the hospitality and tourism industry, bridging the gap between education and employment.
