Peak Floods Expected Overnight

Bhubaneswar: Incessant rainfall in Jharkhand and the Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts of Odisha has led to a significant rise in the water levels of the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka rivers, prompting a high alert from authorities.

The State Flood Cell in the Department of Water Resources is operating round-the-clock, closely monitoring the evolving flood situation.

Current River Levels and Danger Marks:

  • River Subarnarekha (at Rajghat): Currently at 8.74 meters, nearing its danger level of 10.36 meters. Peak flood is anticipated at 11.25 meters at 2:00 AM on June 30, 2025.
  • River Budhabalanga (at Govindpur): Recorded at 7.12 meters, against a danger level of 8.13 meters. Peak flood is expected at 8.20 meters at 9:00 AM on June 30, 2025.
  • River Jalaka (at Mathani): Currently at 7.15 meters, exceeding its danger level of 6.50 meters. Peak flood is expected at 7.50 meters at 12:00 midnight tonight.

District Collectors of Balasore and Mayurbhanj are on the ground, overseeing evacuation and relief operations in vulnerable areas. The Engineer-in-Chief has also reached Balasore to take stock of the likely flood situation and coordinate response efforts.

Residents in low-lying areas and near riverbanks are advised to remain vigilant, take necessary precautions, and cooperate with local authorities for any evacuation or relief measures. Further updates will be issued as the situation develops.
