Paradip Port Creates Record

Paradip: India’s maritime sector reached a significant milestone in FY 2025–26 as Major Ports under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways handled 915.17 million tonnes of cargo.

This performance exceeded the annual target of 904 million tonnes and represented a 7.06% year-on-year growth. Paradip Port Authority played a central role in this achievement, securing its position as one of the nation’s top performers by handling 156.45 million tonnes of cargo. This contribution was vital in helping the sector maintain its recovery and growth trajectory under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal credited these record-breaking figures to the government’s commitment to building world-class infrastructure and improving logistics efficiency.

Paradip Port, alongside Deendayal and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, led the surge in volumes, reflecting the success of strategic investments and modernization efforts.

The port’s high throughput highlights its importance in the national maritime landscape, particularly in the handling of essential commodities such as coal, crude oil, and fertilizers.

The overall success of the Major Ports has been driven by capacity augmentation, digital initiatives, and improved multimodal connectivity. By reducing turnaround times and enhancing ease of doing business, ports like Paradip have boosted trade confidence and operational efficiency.

As the Ministry continues to focus on port-led development and sustainability, the strong performance of Paradip Port ensures it remains a cornerstone of India’s goal to become a global maritime powerhouse and a leader in international trade.
