Bhubaneswar: Odisha has carved its name into the global culinary landscape by securing a Guinness World Record for the largest serving of fermented rice, known locally as Pakhala.

In a historic event organized by the Department of Tourism, a staggering 1,174 kilograms of the traditional dish was prepared and presented in a single massive vessel, setting a new benchmark for indigenous food traditions.

This achievement serves as a profound tribute to the cultural identity of Odisha. Pakhala, a simple yet soulful preparation of cooked rice fermented in water, has long been the backbone of the Odia diet, offering nourishment and respite from the tropical heat. Tourism Secretary Shri Balwant Singh expressed immense pride in the success of the initiative, noting that the record is not just about the volume of food but about the recognition of Odisha’s rich heritage.
