Bhubaneswar: A Tripartite Agreement has been signed for construction of warehouses under the world’s largest grain storage scheme through cooperative societies in the state.
The Pact was signed with Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) NBCC India Limited, Central Co-operative Banks (CCBs) and Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS)/ Large Scale Tribal Multipurpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPCS).
Registrar Odisha Co-operative Societies, Uddhab Charan Majhi, NBCC Regional Director Rakesh Kumar Sinha graced the occasion.
NBCC is known for its quality work and timely implementation of mega projects.
It may be recalled that the state requires warehouse of 24,93,750 metric tonnes capacity to store food grains produced in the state, while there is a capacity of 11,92,760 metric tonnes. To meet this need, building warehouses through cooperatives has turned out as a tool in the world’s largest grain storage scheme.
In collaboration with the Government of Odisha, the Government of India’s pilot project “The world’s largest grain storage scheme through cooperative societies” has been launched. It has been decided to construct warehouses with a capacity of 500 to 2500 metric tonnes under the scheme. It has been decided at the government level that these warehouses will be used by the Food Corporation of India.
Out of the 2,710 Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies in the state, 77 Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies/Large-Scale Tribal Multipurpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPCS) have been selected in the initial phase. Of these, 56 primary agricultural cooperative societies/ large-scale tribal multipurpose cooperative societies, construction bodies and national construction corporations (NBCC) and concerned central cooperative banks have signed tripartite agreements. The remaining committees have been directed to sign the agreement at the earliest.
Rakesh Kumar Sinha, Regional Director, NBCC, Sushanta Kumar Panda, Additional Registrar of Cooperatives and officials of the concerned Central Cooperative Banks and Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies were present during the signing of the Pact held at the Office of the State Co-operative Registrar.
