Bhubaneswar: Steel Major ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AMNS India) on Thursday inked an agreement with the Odisha Government for setting up a 12 mtpa integrated steel plant in Kendrapada district with an investment of Rs 50,000 crore, officials said.
The MoU was signed by Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary Industries and Dilip Oommen, Chief Executive Officer, AMNS India.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and steel tycoon Lakshmi N Mittal who is the chairman of the Mittal group were present during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Lokaseva Bhavan. Secretary to CM V K Pandian moderated the Meeting.
Appreciating the decision of LN Mittal to put up this mega steel project in Kendrapara, Chief Minister said, “Kendrapara was the Karmabhumi of Biju Babu and he loved the place and its people from the core of his heart.” He also stated that Kendrapara provides ideal prospects for an integrated steel complex and the State Government will provide all the required support and facilitation for the setting up of this mega project.
“The steel plant along with the jetty will add significantly to the economic activity and employment generation in not only Kendrapara but also other parts of Odisha. Our entire government team will work hard with dedication for quick implementation of the mega project,” Mr.Patnaik said assuring that he would personally monitor each and every milestone of the project.
“Odisha has successfully emerged and the most attractive investment destination in the country today because of its forward looking industrial policy, facilitation mechanism and robust infrastructure growth,” a visibly happy Chief Minister said after the MoU signing ceremony.
Expressing happiness over his company’s partnership with Odisha Government in setting up this integrated steel complex at Kendrapara, Mr.Mittal said this is in addition to the other investments of AM/NS in Odisha including the 6MTPA pelletization plant in Paradeep which will be expanded to 12 MTPA and the beneficiation complex in Keonjhar and slurry pipeline which are already operational.
He further mentioned that he is amazed as the speed of work by the Government of Odisha, which in his opinion is the best he has experienced in his world-wide business experience. He reiterated that AMNS India is committed to partner with Government of Odisha in the industrial growth journey of the state.
ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel is one of the largest steel makers of the world and combines the financial might of the LN Mittal Group including their international presence in the sector and the technological prowess and management strength of Nippon Steel, which is a Japanese company renowned in the world for its high-technology steel products.
Arcelor Chief Mr.Mittal met CM Mr.Patnaik at his residence Naveen Niwas earlier in the day and discussed his company ArcelorMittal’s projects in the state, an official said. The industrialist had met Union Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Prafulla Mallik, Minister Steel & Mines and Works, Atanu Sabyasachi Naik, MLA, Mahakalpara, Chief Secretary, Development Commissioner, Principal Advisor to Chief Minister, Secretary to Chief Minister Transformation and Initiatives (5T) and other senior officials of the State Government were also present during the MoU signing ceremony.
