Balasore: In the wake of incessant rains causing a significant rise in the water levels of major rivers like Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka, the districts of Balasore and Mayurbhanj in North Odisha are grappling with severe flood conditions.
The Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) has been continuously engaged in extensive rescue and relief operations, playing a crucial role in safeguarding lives and property across both affected districts.
ODRAF teams are actively involved in rescuing individuals from submerged areas and relocating them to safer locations. So far, a remarkable total of over 8,191 people have been successfully rescued from 18 blocks across Balasore and Mayurbhanj and safely evacuated.
Maintaining seamless coordination with Fire Services, ODRAF teams are ensuring the safety of the affected populace with a continuous 24×7 presence. These vital operations are being carried out under the direct supervision of Dr. Satyajit Naik, DIG Eastern Range, Balasore.
In Balasore district, more than 2,000 local residents from areas including Baliapal, Bhograi, Basta, Kamarda, and Singla have been rescued from the floodwaters.
Similarly, in Mayurbhanj district, over 6,000 people from Sarasakana, Rasgobindpur, Badsahi, Betnati, and Baripada have been rescued and moved to secure shelters. ODRAF personnel have been working tirelessly day and night on these rescue missions.
Furthermore, the ODRAF team demonstrated proactive measures by alerting residents of the low lying areas and facilitating their swift relocation to designated shelters.
Currently, six ODRAF teams are deployed in Mayurbhanj district, with an additional five teams operating in Balasore, underscoring the scale and intensity of the ongoing relief efforts.
