New Delhi: Principal Secretary Works, Vir Vikram Yadav has received Prestigious Viswakarma Awards 2025 on 11 April here.
Shri Yadav received the Awards for four Building Complexes completed by the Department of Works in a ceremony held at Dr B R Ambedkar international Center, New Delhi.
Viswakarma Awards is highest civilian award in construction sector, which are given by NITI Ayog every year to leading and innovative structures and personalities.
The buildings are Farmers Technology Demonstration Center (Krishi Sikhya Sadan ) at OUAT, Bhubaneswar, Habisyali Bhawan at Puri, Cancer Hospital at Bargarh, Trauma Care Hospital at Panikoili.
Construction Industries Development Council (CIDC) under NITI Ayog has selected the above buildings for its uncommon designs made in challenging conditions.
Earlier a team of CIDC had visited a number of buildings of Odisha, discussed with executing authorities, users and finally selected above buildings for this prestigious award.
Challenges in design, Construction and operation & maintenance, site constraints, innovative technology, skilled man power in construction, efficient contract system were major criteria for selection of suitable entries by Jury panel. Krishi Sikhya Sadan at OUAT is Odisha’s largest lecture theater of 1000 capacity with allied facilities.
Trauma Care Hospital at Panikoili is largest comprehensive Trauma care facility in Eastern India catering comprehensive treatment of trauma and burn injuries.
Similarly The Habisyali Bhawan is largest accommodation facility created by Works Department to accommodate about 1700 Habisyalis in Holy Month of Kartik.
Cancer hospital at Bargarh is an innovative compact structure accommodating comprehensive cancer care facilities like radiation bunkers and Nuclear Medicine Department.
CIDC and NITI Ayog lauded the effort of Odisha Government bringing out extra ordinary infrastructure in specialized Health care facilities in the state.
FTDC, ( KrushiSikhyaSadan) OUAT, BHUBANESWAR
The FTDC (Farmers Technology Demonstration Center) at OUAT, named Krushi Shiksha Sadan, is an institutional auditorium for agricultural training and international conventions. It houses Odisha’s largest 1000-seat lecture theatre, along with a multi-utility block featuring dining, seminar spaces, and support facilities. Designed with a modern yet culturally respectful approach, the project includes basement parking for 119 cars and 362 two-wheelers to ensure accessibility during large events. The building accommodates holistic and comprehensive requirements as per international standards. Project cost: 59.00 Crore aprox
CANCER HOSPITAL, BARGARH
The Cancer Hospital is a G+5 building within the DHH campus at Bargarh, covering 12,682 sq.m of built-up area. It includes advanced treatment facilities like a 15 MV LINAC, HDR Brachy therapy, and CT Simulator on the ground floor. The upper floors accommodate 20 daycare beds, 38 general ward beds, 7 HDU beds, 6 cabin beds, 13 ICU beds, and 4 isolation ICU beds, OTs, along with OPDs, nuclear medicine, admin offices, a cafeteria, and conference rooms, offering comprehensive cancer care services. Designed within a very compact space, amidst a cluster of hospital blocks, the key challenge was to plan the radiation units in a skillful manner. Project cost: 90.27 Crore.
TRAUMA CARE , PANIKOILI
The Trauma Care Facility is a G+5 hospital near NH-16 at Panikoili, Jajpur. The lower ground floor includes parking, kitchen, canteen, laundry, and support services. The building emergency critical care facilities, OTs, ICUs, burn unit, all diagnostic facilities, isolation cabins, male and female wards (100 beds), and specialized departments, ensuring complete trauma care. This is a state-of-the-art standalone trauma care hospital designed to showcase all safety and clinical norms. Project cost: 101 Crore aprox
SHORT STAY HOME FOR HABISHYALI at Puri
Located near Narendra Tank in Puri, the building accommodates 1,717 beds for Habishyalis (old widows of Odisha performing KartikBrata) during Kartik season and 1,224 beds for rental use in other seasons. It includes a basement for parking and is built as G+7 floors as per regulations. Key amenities include kitchen with dining, caretaker room, housekeeping space, and essential services like lifts, staircases, electrical room, and ramp access are provided. This is the largest accommodation facility created by the Works Department, Government of Odisha, to cater to the needs of Habishyalis. Project cost: 34.00 Crore aprox.
