Sambalpur: The state of Odisha is witnessing a transformative era in its industrial journey, moving decisively from a resource-driven economy to a global hub of high-value manufacturing.
This evolution is guided by the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi and the strategic execution of Shri Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) for Home, Industries, and Information & Public Relations.
ACS, Shri Sharma’s dedicated efforts in streamlining investment grounding and modernizing the state’s industrial policy have been instrumental in attracting massive capital inflows.
A landmark moment in this journey unfolded today at Lapanga in Sambalpur, where the foundation stones were laid and several critical projects were inaugurated. These initiatives, representing a massive aggregate investment of approximately 26,996 crore, include India’s very first aluminium flat rolled products unit and a specialized aluminium battery foil plant. These facilities, alongside significant expansion in smelting capacity, mark a historic shift toward advanced downstream industries and value addition.
Beyond the technological milestones, these projects are set to be a major catalyst for regional prosperity, creating roughly 5,000 new employment opportunities. This surge in high-quality jobs is specifically designed to empower the youth of Western Odisha, providing them with professional avenues within their own state. The transition from raw material production to sophisticated manufacturing ensures that Odisha is not just participating in the national economy but is becoming its strongest industrial pillar.
The influx of investment currently pouring into the state reflects a global confidence in Odisha’s administrative efficiency and infrastructure. Under the focused implementation led by ACS Shri Sharma, the state is successfully translating investment intents into operational realities, cementing Odisha’s status as a leader in the ‘Make in India’ mission and a cornerstone of the country’s economic future.
