Bhubaneswar: Odisha has gone ahead in implementing e-Prisons Program and has been organizing e-Mulakat across the Prisons in the State.
This is being done under 5T Charter of Odisha Government said Santosh Kumar Upadhyay, DG Prisons and Correctional Services, who is regularly monitoring e-Prisons Program.
Till date 275 Visit Though VC (e-Mulakat) have been organized in the Prisons since operation of the program. The Program started in last July, 2021, which is receiving wide response, officials say.
Ministry of Home Affairs has provided financial assistance of Rs.99.49 Crores to the States and Union Territories (UTs) for this project and all funds have been released to them.
Odisha has received Rs.10.12 Crore and under this program Odisha has updated 13 lakh Prisoners across the State.
The e-Prisons, which aim at computerization of the functioning of prisons in the country, have been operationalized in all States and Union Territories. e-Prisons data has been integrated with Police and Court system under the Inter-operable Criminal Justice System.
e-Prisons uses data maintained by the States and Union Territories on the National Prisons Information Portal as per protocols notified for e-Prisons.
The system can be accessed through the secure National Informatics Centre (NIC) network, exclusively by the authorized officials of Law Enforcement Agencies and Prisons, through Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS), said Minister of State for Home Affairs, Ajay Kumar Mishra in a written reply to question in the Rajya Sabha.
