Bhubaneswar: Odisha is firmly positioning itself as the textile hub of Eastern India, a vision emphatically declared by Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi at the inauguration of Odisha TEX 2025.
This landmark event, Eastern India’s largest textile and apparel industry gathering, attracted over 650 delegates, including global brands, leading companies, investors, and technology providers, showcasing the state’s burgeoning strength in the sector.
Odisha TEX 2025 marked a historic moment, drawing significant strategic investment commitments. A total of 33 MoUs were signed, unlocking investments worth ₹7,808 crore and generating employment for over 53,300 people. The summit saw active participation from more than 160 companies, including industry stalwarts like Page Industries, First Step Baby Wear, KPR Mills, and Sportking, representing the entire textile value chain from yarn to technical textiles.
The event highlighted several key initiatives designed to foster a world-class ecosystem for manufacturing, innovation, and employment generation. Two state-of-the-art Textile & Footwear Parks with plug-and-play facilities were launched, alongside the introduction of modern Workers’ Hostels to enhance industrial stability. Crucially, MoUs for Skill Development were signed, aiming to empower youth, especially women, with expertise in automated garmenting, textile machinery, and wearable technologies.
A significant announcement from Chief Minister Shri Majhi included an increase in employment cost subsidies under the Odisha Technical Textile & Apparel Policy 2022. The subsidy will rise from ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 per month for male workers and from ₹6,000 to ₹7,000 per month for female workers, further incentivizing job creation. The Chief Minister also declared that Odisha TEX will become an annual event, reflecting the state’s rich handloom legacy and its foray into modern textiles.
Odisha offers a highly attractive investment environment, backed by its Industrial Policy Resolution 2022 and the Odisha Apparel & Technical Textiles Policy 2022. Chief Minister Majhi underscored the state’s excellent infrastructure and governance, reassuring investors with the announcement of a dedicated Task Force under the Industries Department for fast-track implementation and full government support. The ambitious vision is to create over 1 lakh jobs in textiles and apparel by 2030, with new textile clusters planned for Bolangir, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Jatsinghpur, Ganjam, and Cuttack.
Minister for Industries, Shri Sampad Chandra Swain, emphasized Odisha’s competitive advantages, including raw material availability, port connectivity, and a supportive policy framework, making it a prime destination for textile and apparel investments.
Minister for Handloom, Textiles & Handicrafts, Shri Pradeep Bala Samant, affirmed the dual commitment to driving modern textile investments while strengthening Odisha’s rich handloom heritage.
Odisha TEX 2025 has undeniably positioned Odisha as the “next big textile destination in India,” garnering national and global interest for its integrated and sustainable approach to textile growth. The state is truly ready to lead Eastern India’s textile revolution.
