Bhubaneswar: Odisha has been declared Naxal Mukta by Honourable Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah in Parliament
Odisha Police achieved significant success in the fight against maoists. In the year 2025 and 26 so far, 27 maoists, including 2 central committee members, have been neutralised Including 17 neutralized in joint operation in Garyabandh. 9 maoists have been arrested in 2025 and 26.
78 maoists have surrendered before Odisha police Including 4 state committee members. 42 maoists operating in Odisha including 2 state committee members, have surrendered before Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh Police due to extensive anti maoist operation conducted in Odisha by the security forces. 21 districts were affected by Naxalism in 2012 at its peak.
Nine districts were naxal affected at the beginning of 2025 and we have been able to eliminate maoist presence in 8 districts like Malkangiri, Koraput, Bolangir, Baudh, Nuapada, Nawarangpur, Rayagada and Kalahandi completely said Shri Sanjeeb Panda ADG Anti Naxal Operations.
The recruitment in the naxal outfit from Odisha has stopped completely and locals are not supporting the maoists any more.
“We have been successful in removing 164 maoists in 2025 and 2026 from the maoist eco system in terms of neutralisation of 27, arrests 9 and 120 surrenders” said Shri Panda adding “I thank our forces SOG DVF CRPF BSF and SIW for their excellent performance in the fight against Naxalism. I also thank our honourable CM for his direction and enacting the best surrender and rehabilitation policy in the country.”
In our fight against naxalism, 239 security personnel have let down their lives that includes 142 Odisha Police personnel,CRPF 25, BSF 15, Andhra Pradesh Police 38, CISF 10 and 9 from Chhattisgarh Police. The maoists have also killed 359 civilians.
Shri Panda said “I pay homage to the police martyrs and the civilian victims. I dedicate this phenomenal success in our fight against maoists to the supreme sacrifice of our martyrs”.
Only a handful of naxals of about 8 to 9 are left in Kandhamal district. And now that the deadline for surrender is over, we will focus on hunting down them till we achieve complete success, added Chief Of Naxal Operations, Odisha.
The forces will be deployed for at least two years and keep on conducting Operations so that the maoist activities do not revive in the state.
