Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has launched the Odisha Marine Biotechnology Research & Innovation Corridor (OMBRIC), a new initiative by the Science & Technology Department. This project is set to significantly contribute to environmental protection, science-based tourism, and create new jobs and livelihoods in coastal areas.
An R&D collaboration memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Science & Technology Department and the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT). Additionally, six higher education institutions in Odisha have partnered with the government to provide research and development support.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Minister said that OMBRIC would be a “beacon of hope” for scientific innovation, transforming the state’s blue economy and contributing to national economic growth. He highlighted that the initiative aligns with the vision of Viksit Odisha 2036 and Viksit India 2047, serving as a platform for young entrepreneurs to build marine biotech startups.
The CM emphasized that Odisha is moving from being merely a coastal state to a “coastal innovator,” leveraging its biodiversity responsibly for economic and environmental benefits. Science and Technology Minister Shri Krushna Chandra Patra noted the state’s huge potential in marine biotechnology and described OMBRIC as a “blueprint for a prosperous future.”
