Bhubaneswar: The institutionalization of industrial safety in Odisha has reached a critical milestone following the successful conclusion of a state-level workshop on the installation and maintenance of boilers.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Directorate of Factories and Boilers under the mandate of the Department of Labour and ESI, represents a systemic intervention designed to mitigate the inherent risks of high-pressure thermal systems.
Director Factories and Boilers, Shri Indramani Tripathy, who also serves as the Commissioner of Labour, underscored that the structural integrity of industrial establishments is fundamentally predicated on socio-legal adherence to engineering drawings and the rigor of preventive maintenance protocols.
The urgency of this training is rooted in the high-stakes causality of boiler operations, where technical deviations can escalate into catastrophic failures.
Dr. Malay Kumar Pradhan, Deputy Director of Safety, articulated that the margin for error in heavy industrial environments is virtually nonexistent, framing safety not merely as a set of rules but as a collective moral responsibility.
By convening specialized technical experts from major industrial entities such as Aditya Aluminium and the IOCL Paradip Refinery, the workshop facilitated a sophisticated transfer of knowledge regarding the precision required for safe boiler life cycles.
The program concluded with the certification of 38 accredited factory officers, effectively expanding the state’s oversight capacity. This strategic move aims to transform the industrial landscape of Odisha into a safer, accident-free environment, ensuring that the health and lives of workers remain the ultimate priority within the state’s expanding industrial framework.
