Odisha Hosts Team Sri Lanka

Bhubaneswar: A delegation of thirty officials from Sri Lanka arrived in Odisha today for a five-day training program focused on the crucial role of media during natural disasters.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and the Information and Public Relations Department, Government of Odisha. The visit highlights Odisha’s growing reputation as a leader in disaster management and its commitment to international cooperation.

The Sri Lankan officials were warmly welcomed by a team of dignitaries, reflecting the state’s renowned hospitality. The welcoming Team I & PR was led by Shri Anuj Das Patnaik, Director of the Information and Public Relations Department; Shri Gurbir Singh, Director (Technical); Smt. Bishnupriya Sahu, Additional Secretary; and Deputy Director Smt. Sucheta Priyadarsini, along with other senior officials.

The training will be conducted at the Revenue Officers’ Training Institute (ROTI), where the delegates will receive comprehensive instruction on media’s role in the pre- and post-disaster phases. They will also visit Kalinga Stadium to learn about the successful media strategies employed during the Hockey World Cup, a testament to Odisha’s ability to manage high-profile events.

Beyond the training, the delegation’s itinerary is packed with cultural and historical immersions, showcasing the rich heritage of Odisha. The officials are scheduled to meet with the Honorable Chief Minister, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, during their visit. Their tour will include visits to iconic sites such as the “White Pagoda” (Shanti Stupa, Dhauli) and the “Black Pagoda” (Konark Sun Temple), where they will marvel at the timeless architecture and unparalleled beauty.

They will also be taken on a serene journey to the Chilika Lake, known for its tranquil landscape and vibrant ecosystem. A visit to the State Museum is also on the agenda, offering a deep dive into Odisha’s art, living culture, and glorious history.

The officials will also get to experience the graceful beauty of Odia weaving, providing them with a holistic understanding of the state’s diverse offerings. The visit aims not only to impart critical knowledge but also to foster a strong bond of friendship and shared learning between the two nations.
