Bhubaneswar: In a move to boost eco-friendly transportation across the state, the Odisha government has announced the extension of the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy 2021.
According to an official notification published in The Odisha Gazette by the Commerce and Transport Department, the validity period of the policy has been extended until September 30, 2026.
Principal Secretary, Commerce & Transport, Shri N.B.S. Rajput has issued the notification, which states that the extension has been granted in exercise of the powers conferred under the provisions of Para 11.5 of the original 2021 policy.
Paragraph 11.5 of the original Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021 provides the state government with the specific administrative power to amend, review, or extend the validity period of the EV policy.
Under this provision, the government can issue formal modifications and extensions to the policy in the interest of the public or to ensure a stable regulatory environment for sustainable transportation.
As seen in the official Gazette notification, it is this exact clause that grants the Commerce and Transport Department the legal authority to prolong the policy’s operational timeline.
By invoking Paragraph 11.5, the government ensures that all underlying frameworks, such as purchase subsidies, road tax exemptions, loan interest subventions, and manufacturing incentives, remain legally active and uninterrupted for consumers and industry stakeholders.
This decision aims to continue encouraging citizens to adopt electric vehicles (EVs) over traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. With this extension, EV buyers in the state will remain eligible to avail themselves of financial incentives and subsidies provided under the policy, making green mobility more affordable and accessible to the public.
