Bhubaneswar: Odisha witnessed a proud moment in its clean energy journey as the Energy Department, Government of Odisha, was honored with the prestigious Best Tableau Award for the Republic Day celebrations held in the state capital.

The recognition was formally presented by Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi to Additional Chief Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev, IAS, during the 80th Independence Day Parade Ceremony.

The award-winning tableau highlighted the PM Surya Ghar initiative, emphasizing Odisha’s steadfast commitment to expanding rooftop solar energy adoption and paving the way for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.

As Additional Chief Secretary of Energy and E and IT, Shri Vishal Dev has been at the helm of driving this flagship program of the Government of India, envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Under his visionary leadership, Odisha has demonstrated extraordinary progress in adopting renewable solutions, earning accolades from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy for its exemplary performance and swift execution.

Chief Secretary Smt. Anu Garg expressed her warm appreciation for the remarkable milestone achieved by the Energy Department, underscoring the collective pride felt across the state administration.

This milestone reflects Odisha’s growing resolve to lead the nation in clean energy transition. By successfully turning policy goals into tangible achievements on the ground, the state is setting a bright benchmark for sustainable infrastructure, energy self-reliance, and proactive governance in the years to come.

Building on this landmark achievement, Odisha’s implementation of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana has reached impressive operational milestones across the state. Under the dedicated leadership of Additional Chief Secretary Shri Vishal Dev and the Energy Department, the state has emerged as one of India’s top-performing regions in rooftop solar adoption.

Odisha has successfully completed over 1,63,800 rooftop solar installations. This effort has directly benefited more than 1,64,900 households, backed by over 746 crore rupees in central financial assistance disbursed to support green energy transition.

The program has delivered direct financial relief to citizens across the state, with tens of thousands of households recording zero electricity bills in their regular billing cycles following installation. Furthermore, Odisha leads the nation in Utility-Led Aggregation models, driving a streamlined push toward its broader target of powering three lakh households with clean solar energy.
