Bhubaneswar: A major strategic framework has been set in motion by the Government of Odisha to tap into the state’s massive coastal potential and drive economic growth.
Shri Gokulananda Mallick, Minister for Fisheries and Animal Resources Development inaugurated program, and Shri Prem Chandra Chaudhary, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of FARD graced the occasion.
To lay down a definitive roadmap, the Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development (FARD) hosted a high-level consultation that brought together department officials, aquaculture experts, traditional fishers, entrepreneurs, and key industry stakeholders under the core theme of building a sustainable and prosperous Blue Economy.
The state government is prioritizing a dual approach to boost coastal livelihoods through two major initiatives: the Odisha Shrimp Mission and the Deep Sea Fishing Mission.
Under the Odisha Shrimp Mission, the state is focused on strengthening the livelihoods of lakhs of shrimp farmers by enhancing overall production and integrating advanced modern technologies into Chingudi (shrimp) cultivation. Concurrently, the Deep Sea Fishing Mission leverages cutting-edge technology to equip marine fishers, unlocking new opportunities for larger deep-sea catches and significantly scaling up seafood exports.
The extensive strategic dialogue focused on fostering a collaborative framework among researchers, field professionals, and industry leaders to scale up production and streamline trade infrastructure. The session was attended by, senior officials, experts along with other department officials who outlined the strategic governance roadmap to achieve these economic milestones.
