Bhubaneswar: In a compassionate move to protect vulnerable women and children, the Odisha Government has cracked down on male state employees who default on court-ordered maintenance and alimony payments.
Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi took a firm, empathetic stance after observing a recurring trend during public grievance hearings, where abandoned families frequently sought intervention due to non-payment of judicial allowances.
Expressing deep concern, the Chief Minister remarked that it is entirely unacceptable for public servants to disobey court orders while abandoning their wives and children to financial hardship.
Under new administrative directives issued by the state government, Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) across departments must now deduct the court-mandated maintenance amount directly from the monthly salary of non-compliant employees.
These funds will be transferred electronically into the bank accounts of the affected wives or children, ensuring they receive their rightful financial support without further administrative delays or emotional distress.
To solidify this support system, Chief Minister Shri Majhi announced plans to integrate all court-ordered maintenance obligations into the state’s automated Human Resources Management System (HRMS).
This seamless integration aims to enforce strict judicial compliance, restore dignity to suffering families, and offer long-term financial security to vulnerable women and children across Odisha.
