Odisha Celebrates IDY

Bhubaneswar: Today, on the occasion of International Day for Yoga (IDY), a grand state-level yoga ceremony was organized by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department of the Odisha state government at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi graced the event as the chief guest, actively participating in the yoga session alongside thousands of attendees. BJP State President Man Mohan Samal joined Yoga Day Celebrations along with Ministers. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja also attended.

Additional Chief Secretary Home, Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Satyabrata Sahu, Development Commissioner Anu Garg and several senior Mandarins joined Yoga Program.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Shri Majhi emphasized that yoga is a profound gift from India to global human society. He highlighted that yoga transcends mere physical exercise, serving as a unique confluence of physical, intellectual, mental, and spiritual well-being. “Though rooted in Indian culture and yogic tradition, it is not tied to any specific religion,” he stated, adding that yoga, which stimulates the body, soul, and thinking power, has become universally popular, regardless of caste, religion, or color.

The Chief Minister also acknowledged Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s initiative to globalize yoga. He recalled how, within six months of assuming office in May 2014, Prime Minister Modi championed the cause, leading to the United Nations passing a resolution on December 11, 2014, to observe June 21 annually as ‘International Yoga Day’. Today, the Chief Minister noted, people worldwide celebrate it with immense interest and enthusiasm.

This year’s International Yoga Day theme, “One Planet, One Health, was also highlighted by the Chief Minister. He explained that the theme underscores the deep connection between individual well-being and the health of the planet, showcasing how yoga promotes a harmonious lifestyle that respects nature and all living beings.

In Odisha, Chief Minister Majhi affirmed the government’s commitment to making yoga accessible to everyone. He detailed efforts such as organizing workshops and awareness campaigns through schools, colleges, hostels, and sports centers. Plans are also underway to integrate yoga into school curricula and public health programs. “Our aim is to build a healthy, self-reliant, capable, and empowered Odisha,” he asserted. He proudly shared that yoga sessions were held in all districts across Odisha today, with thousands participating in both urban and rural areas, demonstrating a growing awareness and faith in healthy living among the populace.

Approximately 15,000 people, including ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, and senior state officials, participated in the state-level yoga camp at Kalinga Stadium. The event also featured a traditional Gotipua dance performance presented by the Culture Department.
