Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government, which has placed a high priority on creating a safe working environment and ensuring the welfare of industrial workers, the Directorate of Factories and Boilers is taking significant strides in accident prevention.
Shri Indramani Tripathy, Director of Factories and Boilers and Commissioner of Labour, Odisha, has been spearheading comprehensive safety training programs to bolster the state’s industrial safety framework.
Following the approval of the State Labour and ESI Department, a state-level training workshop focused on the “Role and Responsibilities of Safety Committee” was organized in collaboration with the State Labour Institute. The initiative concluded its second phase on 17 December 2025 at the Institute’s conference hall, marking another milestone in the Directorate’s mission to foster a zero-accident culture.
The primary objective of this specialized training was to empower Safety Committee members with the tools for effective hazard identification and awareness. By clarifying the specific responsibilities of these committees, the Directorate aims to ensure that safety is treated as a proactive daily action rather than just a set of compliance rules.
In his keynote address, Shri Indramani Tripathy emphasized that workplace safety relies on the twin pillars of responsibility and cooperation. He noted that through the active participation of dedicated committees and regular training, the state can build a workplace environment that is truly secure for every individual.

The workshop also featured insights from Dr. Malay Kumar Pradhan, Deputy Director (Safety) of the Directorate of Factories and Boilers, who highlighted that safety is a collective duty shared by every employee. He reiterated that such awareness programs are essential for reducing industrial accidents and enhancing overall productivity.
The program benefited from the expertise of several industry veterans and consultants, including Dr. Kiran Kumar Panda (EHS Consultant and former Head of HSE, AM-NS India), Shri Jitendra Parida (Associate Vice President, Safety, Jindal Steel & Power), Shri Debashish Patnaik (AGM HR, SAIL-Rourkela Steel Plant), and Shri Nihar Kant Raut (EHS Consultant, Paradeep Phosphates Limited).
The concluding session included an interactive question-and-answer segment where safety officers and members from various departments engaged with the trainers to resolve practical workplace challenges. The event ended with the distribution of certificates to 41 recognized safety officers, signaling their readiness to implement these high safety standards in their respective units.
