Observers Monitor Free & Fair Poll

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has fully deployed its contingent of Central Observers for the upcoming General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Bihar, 2025, and concurrent bye-elections in eight Assembly Constituencies, with strict instructions to ensure a transparent, free, and fair electoral process.

The Central Observers, appointed under the plenary powers of Article 324 of the Constitution and Section 20B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, are tasked with assisting the Commission in the smooth conduct of the polls.

The Commission has deployed a significant number of officials across the poll-bound regions:

Bihar Phase 1: 121 General Observers and 18 Police Observers.

Bihar Phase 2: 122 General Observers and 20 Police Observers.

Bye-elections in 8 ACs: 8 General Observers and 8 Police Observers.

All deployed Observers have successfully completed their initial round of visits to their assigned constituencies and are now stationed in their respective areas, ready to commence intensive monitoring.

The ECI has directed the Observers to closely monitor the entire election process. A key instruction mandates that Observers remain fully accessible to political parties, candidates, and voters. This is to ensure immediate and effective redressal of any grievances or complaints.

Furthermore, the Observers have been specifically instructed to actively visit polling stations to oversee and ensure the rigorous implementation of recent initiatives undertaken by the Commission aimed at enhancing voter convenience.

The ECI’s move underscores its commitment to maintaining a level playing field and boosting voter participation across the state.
